While looking through some old Quality Training material I came across
something I thought would be interesting to share. It is from a training
course offered in Fredericton, Feb 27, 1995.
It states:
"During World War II, parachute packers felt great pride in achieving a
quality level of 99.9%. Surely that was good enough for government work
! Of course, for purely selfish reasons, one paratrooper out of a
thousand didn't think of 99.9% as a particularly impressive achievement"
The article further went on to say..
"An error rate of 1% means:
At least 200,00 wrong drug prescriptions each year.
Unsafe drinking water almost four days each year.
No electricity, water, or heat for about 15 minutes each day.
No cable or telephone service for nearly 15 minutes each day
Nine misspelled words on every page of a magazine."
I have not verified any of these "facts" but I did find them quite
interesting.
