Managing a Company? What to do?

Managing a Company
A critics review
By: Brad Detchevery

So what do I know about managing a company?, I have never been a President, head of a company, I’ve never had to make the ‘tough’ decisions or sit in the big char in the executive office. You may be reading parts of this review and thinking to yourself, sure..anyone can say ‘this’ and ‘that’ but the real-world doesn’t work that way. This guy needs a taste of the complexities of the job before he goes on and states the ‘shoulds’, do’s and don’t of a job that he has never really experienced. What nerve…What gall…What non-sense ?

Well I could not agree more, I don’t have all of the answers, some of my thoughts maybe idealistic, and some might sound downright preposterous. I have never lead a company (whether successful or not). If I state things which sound absurd please don’t be offended, the purpose of this document is simply me relating my observations and experiences and may or may not be related to your particular situation. It is my ‘sounding’ board of my thoughts and ideas, some of which might work and some of which might not. Nothing in this paper has been intended to be judgemental or one-sided…I am simply trying to help describe the pitfalls I have noticed in my job experiences at this point in my life to sort out and gain a better understanding of human nature and its impact on the work force.

My main job area has been dealing with computers, writing programs to simplify the tasks performed by individuals that I work with. I am also responsible for helping to design and maintaining the various systems/processes used within my company through-out it’s ongoing life cycle. Some of these tasks have included, automated product ordering/invoicing, inventory tracking, dealing with non-conforming product, quality auditing, web administration, developing and maintaining contact management systems, administration servers, network wiring, and providing technical support to both employees and customers. Though out this time I have had several opportunities to observe and examine a company as it grows and changes over time, to listen to the successes and the problems exist in the workplace. This document voices my opinions on how to overcome these difficulties to create a workplace where anyone can enjoy coming to work and leave each day feeling satisfied of a job well done..and not about what a pain in the ass their job is.

Future postings of ideas that I recommend that any company that desires success should follow. It has been specially designed to help avoid the pitfalls that I have noticed in my experiences. I hope that you find this system useful and helpful and wish you the best of luck with your company.
